Modernizing Elevators and Escalators with KONE

KONE’s modernization solutions are designed to extend the life of elevators and escalators while improving safety, reliability, and user experience. For building owners facing increased maintenance costs, service disruptions, or rider complaints, modernization can be a smart long-term investment.

One of KONE’s standout offerings is the EcoMod escalator modernization solution. It allows for the replacement of outdated equipment while reusing the existing truss — reducing the need for extensive structural work and minimizing disruption to building operations.

KONE’s solutions are also flexible: even facilities currently under contract with other service providers can explore modernization options with KONE.

Monospace® 500 Flex

COMPLETE ELEVATOR REPLACEMENT FOR LOW- TO MID-RISE BUILDINGS

KONE MonoSpace® 500 Flex is designed to deliver the benefits of full elevator replacement with minimal disruption. Tailored for low- to mid-rise buildings, the system can be adapted to fit existing hoistways and entrances — offering flexibility for renovation projects. With over 500,000 installations globally over the past two decades, it’s a proven solution for building owners seeking a balance between performance, space efficiency, and long-term value.

ReNova® Door Operator Upgrade

IMPROVED ELEVATOR DOOR PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY

Door-related issues account for a large percentage of elevator service calls. The KONE ReNova® solution addresses this by offering a high-performance modernization option for elevator doors. Building owners can retain part, all, or none of the existing hoistway door equipment. ReNova delivers some of the fastest door opening and closing speeds in the industry, which translates to shorter wait times and quieter operation — helping improve both efficiency and rider experience.

Kone EcoMod®

Smart Escalator Modernization with Minimal Disruption

If your building is dealing with escalator downtime, rising maintenance costs, or safety concerns, KONE EcoMod® offers a smarter way to modernize — without the challenges of full replacement. This award-winning solution reuses your existing truss, eliminating the need for major structural work and reducing the impact on your building’s daily operations.

KONE EcoMod is built for long-term performance. It features more durable materials for greater reliability, enhanced safety that exceeds code requirements, and quieter, more energy-efficient operation. Many components are APTA-compliant, helping ensure that safety, quality, and transit standards are consistently met.

Installation is handled by experienced KONE crews using a modular, turnkey process that minimizes disruption and saves time — even if you’re currently working with a different service provider.

Designed with flexibility in mind, EcoMod can also be tailored to match your building’s aesthetics and enhanced with features like KONE 24/7 Connected Services for predictive maintenance.

Hurricane Prep

Be Prepared for an Emergency

For buildings located in storm-prone coastal areas, elevators are especially vulnerable to water damage during hurricanes and severe weather. Without proper precautions, both passengers and equipment could be at risk.

KONE offers a detailed before-during-after safety checklist to help building managers prepare elevator systems ahead of a storm. For example:

  • Before a storm: Check sump pumps, float switches, and alarms in elevator pits.
  • During a storm: Elevators should be parked at the top floor, and the main power breaker switched off.
  • After a storm: Inspect the entire elevator system for signs of water. If water is present, the system should remain off until a professional inspection is completed.

Taking these steps can help minimize safety risks and prevent costly repairs due to flooding or water intrusion.
